"THE ROOT CAUSE" 52 in 2007 Basic Bible Truths study April 1-7

Greetings,

The study for this week April 1-7 is: “THE ROOT CAUSE OF SIN IS OUR WILLFUL REBELLION - NOT THAT WE HAVE TWO NATURES, AND NOT THAT ‘GOD MADE ME LIKE THIS’ -

The key Scripture is 1 Samuel 15:23: For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.

The New American Standard translates: For rebellion is as the sin of divination,
And insubordination [stubbornness, doing what you want to do, not what you are told by God to do] is as iniquity and idolatry

And the Amplified version expands on by adding that ‘stubbornness’ is as idolatry and teraphim (household good luck images [charms, amulets])… looking meaning of charms, amulets and good luck home images I found this item:

An amulet (from Latin amuletum; earliest extant use in Natural History [Pliny], meaning "an object that protects a person from trouble") or a talisman (from Arabic tilasm, ultimately from Greek telesma or from the Greek word "talein" which means "to initiate into the mysteries.") consists of any object intended to bring good luck and/or protection to its owner. Potential amulets include: gems or simple stones, statues, coins, drawings, pendants, rings, plants, animals, etc.; even words said in certain occasions— wow!...

Because of King Saul rejecting God’s Word, God rejected Saul from been King over the Nation of Israel.

Rebellion (when self-will usurp the place of God in our lives) is one of the reasons believers need to be sanctified. When outward sins are forgiven the carnal self-life still exists in believers. Believers love God, but because the affections of their heart is divided, there is rebellion, until they love God with their whole heart.

Many love God, yet not completely. For this reason, many struggle to live above sin.

They want to live for God, but on their terms. This rebellion is why they originally sinned against God. God brings every thing that is in competition with Him to our minds, and what we do with it determines our loyalty. Loyalty is based on love. Jesus said, “For where your treasure is there will your heart be also.” (Matt. 6:21)

Jesus adds in Matthew 6:24"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (deceitful riches, money, power, possessions, family name/pedigree, social position, or whatever is trusted in).

It’s rather ironic, because we believers really do love God and want to serve Him. Yet, our carnal self-interest hinders a total consecration to God. Paul said “Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” (Rom. 12:1) This is loving God with all our hearts, with all our souls, and with all our minds and wills. (Mat. 22:37). This enables every person to will one will.

As every sinner must decide to:

repent ( to change your mind, your emotion from what you are doing and go the opposite way… in this case from ‘doing your own thing’ to following God’s direction for a better life )

to have peace with God (‘peace’ is the English word translated from the Hebrew word Shalom: Strong's Concordance 7965 - Hebrew Shalom ..... A word study in the New King James version for SHALOM says: Completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord. Shalom comes from the root verb Shalom meaning to be complete, perfect and full. In modern Hebrew the obviously related word Shelem means to pay for, and Shulam means to be fully paid.)

and be saved ( To rescue from harm, danger, or loss. To set free from the consequences of sin; redeem. To keep in a safe condition; safeguard. To prevent the waste or loss of; conserve. ),

every believer must decide to consecrate their all to God (To declare or set apart )

and be sanctified (To set apart for God’s use ).

Peace with God continues only through obedience, for there can never be peace while one is resisting God. Peace and comfort are found only in simple obedience… perhaps, not easy, but simple…

Those of us desiring to be a Christian while disobeying the Holy Spirit willfully resist God’s grace ( Divine love and protection bestowed freely on people. The state of being protected or sanctified by the favor of God )

While on rebellion, a Christian simultaneous to this rebellion comes an awareness of having grieved God… and emotionally feeling out of fellowship with God…

Those having these ambivalent feelings find it difficult to have victory. For trying to live for Christ without total obedience, is like a fish trying to live outside of water. How long will it live? Who knows? But ultimately we know that will happen if it doesn’t have water.

Every moment of every day sanctified believers make a conscious decision to obey Christ by walking in the light. Christians who walk in the light have peace with God, and there are no unhappy obedient Christians! Amen.
