"Touch with Hope" - how to adapt outreach to single moms through local churches

Just want to share with you ways to reach out to single moms through out local churches and ministries by adapting ideas from this outreach packet from the Assemblies of God Women's Ministries email I received today:

** RESOURCE HELPS LOCAL CHURCHES MEET NEEDS

Assemblies of God Women's Ministries is helping local churches meet the needs of single moms through "Touch With Hope."

The "Touch With Hope Ministry Packet" networks congregations with agencies that can help single mothers and suggests resource ideas churches can offer such as life skill classes.

"It's a very practical way of helping the local church find out what's available to single moms," says National Women's Ministries Director Arlene Allen. "But beyond that, it is a mentoring program."

The one-year mentoring program pairs single mothers with mature Christian women for the purpose of growing as Christians and as mothers. Sharon Ferguson, director of "Touch With Hope" at Revival Outreach Center International Church, Northville, Michigan, says mentorship relationships often continue beyond the one-year commitment and have lasting results.

"We've seen two single moms in their 40s who, as a result of getting involved with mentoring, have gone back to college," Ferguson says.

The mission of "Touch With Hope" is to provide a Christ-focused ministry for single mothers in need and to identify resources to help these women reach and maintain self-sufficiency.
